What is the difference?

The key difference between Family Day Care and other early education services is the flexible type of care and that educators run their own small business from home.

Our educators can care for up to 7 children per day, including:

  • 4 children who have not yet started school
  • 3 school-aged children

Family Day Care educators can also choose the type of care they provide:

  • Day care
  •  Outside school hours care
  •  Vacation care
  •  Outside operating hours: early mornings/late nights, weekends.
  •  Casual care: catering to the needs of families

Is family day care fully regulated and compliant?

Like all forms of early childhood education and care, family day care is heavily regulated:

Is family day care a popular career choice?

Family day care is growing across Australia, with over 9,000 educators providing care to 71,000 children. Its flexible care (which parents prefer as they pay for the hours they need), the ability to run a small business from home, and the chance to make a lasting impact on children’s development make it an appealing career.

Family day care is an imperative resource for our community, especially in areas of socioeconomic disadvantage and the demand is also rising, with nearly half of services offering weekend care to support families’ diverse needs.
